At the timenone of the one hundred and sity-five enlisted men and their officers had any way of knowing that for the next two years they would be confined within the walls of the fort only able to leave under heavey guard. Bast numbers of Sioux Indians resented the presence of soldiers a the fort and were dtermined to force them to leave.
